Model-based design (MBD) and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) have become central to automotive cyber-physical systems, enabling cross-domain integration, verification, and design-time analysis through unified models and ontologies. Human–machine interface (HMI) testing and use-case catalogues are systematized via frameworks, early concept assessment, and expert evaluations, supporting scalable HMI verification for autonomous driving systems (ADS) and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Scenario-based development and ontology-driven test catalogs shape ADS deployment planning, with scenario analyses informing safety and usability studies. Systems engineering practices emphasize agile MBSE integration, product-line engineering, and modularity to manage extreme complexity, variants, and rapid innovation in vehicle software and hardware ecosystems.
